Matatiele to Kokstad
Resthaven Guesthouse is a 22-room guesthouse situated on the main road of Matatiele which is the gateway to Southern Lesotho, the start of the Maloti Route and on Route 56 the alternative scenic route to the Cape. We offer information about our area and Lesotho. We also have a little Coffee Shop set in our lovely garden with magnificent views of the Drakensberg Mountains. Conveniently situated just off the Main Road with clean restrooms and a playground for the kids. Resthaven Guesthouse also offers a comfortable conference facility for up to 30 people.
The Guesthouse is made up of four different houses. All the buildings are old (some from 1903) that the owners renovated and restored beautifully to still have a homely, old fashioned warm atmosphere but with all the modern commodities to make the guests comfortable. Large lawns and gardens between the buildings give a feeling of space and tranquility.
The history of the complex is very interesting with names like Resthaven Main old house (victorian double story with brookie lace) the owners residence, The Mance, The Cottage, The Stables and the luxury rooms; to hint at the interesting story behind the whole set-up.

Cedarberg Guest Farm is situated between Kokstad and Matatiele at the foothills of the most Southern Drakensberg-Maluti mountain range.
Our main aim is to offer the city-dweller an escape from the hustle and bustle of their everyday life. Here on the farm the peace and quiet will probably keep you awake the first night, just to be woken the next morning by many birds and farm sounds.
We cater for all, but families or groups planning a reunion or a get together will find us to be the ideal venue. Our old farm shed has been converted into a quaint function venue suitable for weddings (up to 200 people), conferences and workshops. Our summers are mild and winters quite cold, with snow often on the mountains and sometimes even on the farm. Accommodations consists of the Cedarhoek farm house and five other cottages. There is a log cabin for couples wanting a romantic getaway with a beautful view of the garden, dams and valley. There are camping facilities with electric points available. Cedarberg Guest Farm is a pet friendly establishment.
Cedarville is close to three mountain passes with border posts into Lesotho which make the farm a perfect base to explore this lesser known section of the Drakensberg and southern Lesotho. The 4x4 enthusiast or adventure motorbiker will not believe their luck when they take the time to discover the surrounding area. On the farm many jeep tracks may be used and whilst testing your skill and vehicle, game viewing can also be enjoyed. Our horseriding and guided outrides on the farm are very popular.
Zebra, Red hartebeest, Blesbuck, common Reedbuck, mountain Reedbuck, Grey Duiker, as well as the endangered Oribi can be seen. Recently we had some surprising newcomers when three unplanned ‘Zebra-Hinnies’ or ‘Donkras’ where born from zebra mares and a donkey stallion. Birders will often reach for their binoculars with many grassland and wetland specialist species found on the farm and in the area. All three crane species can be seen on the Cedarville flats, sometimes in the same location.
