Morning Glory Cottages is situated on the Old Family working farm Gelykfontein – a well known Racehorse Stud farm. The farm has been in the family since 1884 and over 100 years has been developed to where it is today. The Racehorse stud was established in 1935 by JC (Boer) vd Walt and wife Tinie vd Walt (born 1912 and raised on the farm) and now farmed by the 4th generation Van der Walts. In the study of the main residence, generations of racehorses from all over the world can be traced back for over 300 years. Colts and fillies from the Stud participate in races all over the country.
Guests are spoiled with true Karoo Cuisine prepared by our Resident Chef in the quaint dining room, or try alfresco dining under the stars, maybe you prefer your meal served in your unit family style. A unique dining experience awaits you here at Morning Glory Cottages. Dinner can be The Farm Table a delicious buffet, or a Three Course Plated meal or buy a Braaipack from us and "braai" your own Karoo lamb to your liking, served with two salads, roosterkoek or freshly baked bread. Choose a wine from our wine selection in Schalkies Place to accompany your meal. Karoo dessert | Pudding: Carefully planned desserts can be enjoyed with a dessert wine specially imported from selected Klein Karoo Estates. After dinner enjoy a nice coffee in the bar lounge(Schalkies Place) in the company of new friends made in the Karoo Hartland. Or sitting outside next to the fire pit gazing at the stars. Scrumptious Breakfasts are on offer the following morning. The Farm Breakfast enough to keep any farmer "oops" traveller going for the rest of their trip. Morning Glory has four tastefully decorated Garden En-suite Rooms (Borage, Chamomile, Angelica and Cottonwood Garden Suite) and two fully equipped Self Catering cottages (Lavender and Farm Cottage). The Garden En-suite rooms sleep 2 to 3 people with the exception of Borage Garden Suite which sleeps 2. The Self Catering cottages sleep 5 and 6 people respectively.
